More Bags for Sale...

I have been busy at the sewing machine and wanted to let you see some of the results.

This pink one has already been listed on Etsy.com and you can find the link to my store in the side bar.

The pink bag is made from a linen type of fabric with a deep pocket on the outside. There is a button loop closure. It is also fully reversible with a darker pink for the strap and interior. (See details in my store for more info).

This little blue Hawaiian bag was fun to make. One of my girlfriends had ordered a Big bag for her to use while riding the bus and I used the leftover material to make smaller bags. She also bought one of these in the picture, so I only have one of them. It will be listed in Etsy sometime this afternoon...I need to get an individual picture of it. :)

This Pansy bag was fun to make. Again, it is big! I made a similar one for my friend (who rides the bus). The exterior has BIG pansies...they are about 6" across! The interior was made from satin found in my mother's attic. It also has a big pocket on the inside made from the pansy fabric as shown here...and on the other side, the pockets go all the way across to hold things like pens and magazines. The handles are perfect to hold on to your shoulder and there is a magnetic snap to keep things closed.

See the big pansies! I love this bag and really wish I could keep it, but to be honest, I need to help our budget more.

Ok...this is the bag I started and finished yesterday. I'm really pleased with it too! It's fully reversible and I have pictured it both ways. Here you see the silk on the exterior and the weave of the silk is purple and gold, so the sheen is quite fabulous. It needed some embellishment, so with my stash of leftover yarns and such, I made the tassel. The tassel is just tied on somewhat loosely so it can be removed when the bag needs cleaning.

The other fabric has an Oriental feel to it with fans floating across it.

The silk was a wonderful find at a garage sale in a free box. It was a discarded throw pillow cover that I picked apart. Pretty cool.

This is Scott's hand showing where the pocket is. :) The bag is big enough to easily hold a regular sized binder, or a few books. Or just a great bag to take shopping. I opted to not use a magnetic snap as then it wouldn't be reversible.

Isn't it beautiful! I will be posting this one too on Etsy this afternoon. After pricing silk fabric at a quilt store the other day at almost $30 a yard, I'm hoping to get a good price for this.

Tuscan Knitting Bag

A friend of mine wanted a "knitting" bag for his wife. A "Tuscan" knitting bag. His wife had broken her ankle and he thought this would be just the thing for her.

Sooooooo...using some curtain material that was given to me, I think I made the perfect bag. :)


The pockets are all on the exterior of the bag and go all the way across and enter into the side seams. I then sized them for things like patterns, pens and pencils, scissors, cell phone and such. You get the idea.

Then there was the insert knitting needle holder. This idea came from my Mom and I think it worked out really well. I even embellished it with a bow. (Mom thinks that I don't embellish my bags enough.)

It's done and I can deliver tomorrow morning, right on schedule.

Bags and Purses for Sale!

As promised...I am listing some of my bags here before listing them on Etsy.com

Just so you know...all of my bags are upcycled materials, those found in thrift stores, garage sales, left over material from dresses and such...

This pink and green one was made from a scarf and a remnant from Walmart. The base is 12" across at the bottom and it stands 9" tall. The top of the bag is 8"across and the strap is attached by D rings. It is fully lined with the lime fabric.

This is the back side of the bag. I have priced this bag at $18.

This horse purse is slightly angled in on the sides. Only the front of the purse has the horse fabric, the rest is made up entirely of denim, so it is very sturdy!

This bag and all the bags below are reversable.

All three of these horse bags are $12 each.

This shows the lining of the teal flower purse. This was made from a scarf/kerchief found at a garage sale.

As you can see, here too I have angled in the sides to make it more purse like.

This is the other side. You can have this one for $10.

This pansy bag has a purple lining and some purple fur trim at the top. It's sides are straight up and down and will make a perfect gift bag!

There is also another pansy bag of the same size and lining, but we put a yellow ribbon on the front with a button...let me know if you want to see a picture of that one.

I have two of these bags, $12 each, but these pictures are for the front and back of the same one. They are just shy of being 12" tall and the base is 6" wide, both are lined with denim.

These two smaller bags are actually the same...I just turned one with the striped fabric out so that you could see that they are reversable. The white fabric has tulips on it and on one of the bags we put two red buttons.

$8 each. ($14 if you buy both)

Here I have 3 bags made of the same fabric. They have also been stiffened as the pink material was quite flimsy. Two of the bags have been embellished with the yellow rickrack on the printed fabric, and the third one was embellished with purple rickrack on the pink side. They are just shy of 12" tall and have a base of 6" wide and 4" deep. They would make great gift bags or lunch bags.

$12 each.

I have 3 of these bags, the exterior is made of a quilted material and the lining is a white background with navy blue dots on it. the handle is the same as the lining. They are 6.5 inches tall, about 6" wide and 3.5 inches deep.

$8 or $20 if you want all 3. :)

Again I used a garage sale scarf/kerchief for this bag. There was even enough fabric for the handles.

If you saw other bags on the racks and I didn't mention them here, let me know if you are interested. I will also make custom bags. When I do the show in October, I plan on having school sized bags, ones big enough to carry binders and laptops.

Oh...the Mariners are currently going to the bottom of the 10th inning with a tie score of 2-2 ... sure hope we win!

On With the Show!

Yes! It is really happening! Steve helped me get things all set up, even crumpled the tissue paper to put into the bags! Then while I was fussing with the scarves on their rack, Steve put together the bags on the table. It really looks great!

If you are interested in a custom made bag, I have started the pricing of the basic small ones at $8. Then when you add things like pockets, stiffer fabric and such, the price goes up a bit. All the horse ones are $12.

The red purse (found in a previous blog) and the other simular purses with pockets, are $15. When I get back into production of bags big enough for binders and school books, those too will be $15.

The prices of the scarves vary due to the complexity of the pattern, the cost of the yarn and the time it took to actually knit them. They sure are fun to make!

Here is another photo showing the variety of bags being sold. Oh...that pink and green purse? The one with the D rings in the handle...that one I priced at $18.

Finding the right table clothes was challenging, but I really like how it turned out!

I'm officially one of the Starving Housewives! I am putting my bags and other creations into a craft fair April 7 - 11. Since I only decided on this a few weeks ago, things around here have been pretty hectic. My Mother even came up for a few days to help me sew and decorate the bags. She even sewed up the seams in the dishcloths.

I'm really excited about this and may even do their fall and winter craft fairs too. As long as there are no medical claim jobs opening up, this gives me something to do...not that being a stay at home mom means I'm doing nothing... :)

Last week, Steve found this seed rack at Coast-to-Coast, who are closing their store, and it works perfectly for showing off the bags. Now I just need to get busy and sew the remaining bags that have been previously cut out. Tart Christmas Party

On Saturday, December 20th, early in the morning (for us) we left our warm home and headed to Gig Harbor for the Tart family Christmas party. The roads here in Monroe are snow covered, but the highways and freeways were just fine. I knitted a scarf on our way there...finished it just as we got into Gig Harbor!

The party itself was really nice. The food was wonderful! The cookies I brought didn't last long...need to make a note to self to take more cookies next time. The homemade theme went over really well and the bags I made for the children were well received. I gave Julie my best bags and a couple of dishcloths of the finest cotton thread I had.

We left Gig Harbor around 1:30 and it had already started to snow there when we left. We got home around 3:30 or so and spent the rest of the day waiting for a big storm to arrive.

Oh...I gave the scarf I knitted to Mom to give to someone...I just like knitting them...they are fast and easy...especially when you use those huge knitting needles. :)
